The assignment was to develop the idea of a house through childhood memories. Those memories were then distilled into a core concept for a house through drawing and sculpture. The last stage of the project involved choosing one of three sites and responding to that condition using the idea identified in the earlier stages.
The core ideas behind this house were to blur the threshold between indoor and outdoor spaces and to articulate the function of the indoor space, whether public or private, with a continuous screen which opened or closed based on the use behind it. The screen also detached itself from the building envelope to create semi-private outdoor spaces. It was also interesting to see what patterns and effects were created from the light and shadows created by the screen. The final form of the house was defined by creating two walls of such screens separated by a breezeway, which allowed one to travel through the house without actually entering it.
